EPISODE 55 This week we interview one of the Godfathers of Science Fiction, Forrest J Ackerman who is credited with nurturing and inspiring the careers of several early contemporaries like Ray Bradbury, Ray Harryhausen, Carles Beaumont, Marion Zommer Bradley and L. Ron Hubbard of Scientology fame. He was Ed Wood, Jr's illiterary agent and represented over 200 authors of science fiction and fantasy. Mr. Ackerman is also notable for having coined the term "Sci-Fi" and inventing "Costuming" when he became the first person to ever dress up in a costume when attending the very first Sci-Fi convention. He has been a writer, publisher, agent, and actor. He also created the magazine "Famous Monsters in Filmland" introducing the history of Science Fiction and Fantasy to a generation of young readers. Today he's renowned for his Ackerman Mini-Mansion filled with Sci-Fi memorabilia from famous Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Movies where he gives tours almost every Saturday from 11-noon. |
